Where to stay

If it’s your first time in Phuket, I highly recommend staying near Karon Beach. One of my favorite parts of Thailand is relaxing by the ocean with warm water and soft, sandy beaches. Karon Beach is spacious and rarely feels crowded, so it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax. It’s also conveniently located between Patong and Kata Beach, giving you access to multiple beach options. While Patong is known for its lively nightlife, it can be busy and loud—Karon offers a more peaceful, laid-back vibe, with the flexibility to hop over to Patong when you want more action.

How long to stay

How long you stay in Phuket really depends on what you want to see and do. If time allows, I recommend spending around 5 days. On my last trip, I stayed for 5 nights, which felt just right—enough time to explore different parts of the island and still fit in a couple of day trips to nearby spots like the Similan Islands or Phi Phi Islands. It’s a great balance between relaxing and making the most of your visit.

When to visit

Visit Phuket from November to February for cooler weather, low humidity, and perfect conditions for snorkeling and diving. However, this is also peak tourist season, so expect higher prices and larger crowds.

If you prefer fewer crowds and better deals, consider the shoulder season from March to May. It’s hotter and more humid, making outdoor activities harder, but it’s less crowded, and accommodations are cheaper and easier to book.

June to October is monsoon season, bringing frequent heavy rain and rougher seas. Outdoor plans and boat tours may be disrupted, making this the least ideal time to visit.

Things to do

Phuket offers something for every type of traveler. Here are some of my top recommendations:

1. Relax on the Beaches – Visit Patong, Karon, or Kata Beach for sunbathing, swimming, or water sports like snorkeling and jet-skiing.
2. Island Boat Tours – Explore nearby islands like Phi Phi, Similan, and James Bond Island by boat for snorkeling and scenic adventures.
3. Experience the Nightlife – Head to Bangla Road in Patong for lively bars, nightclubs, beach bars, and even live Muay Thai boxing.
4. Visit Local Markets – Shop and snack at Phuket Weekend Market or Banzaan Market for souvenirs and delicious Thai street food.
5. Enjoy Spa & Wellness – Unwind with a Thai massage, spa treatment, yoga class, or meditation in peaceful tropical settings.
